Data Loader is powerful, but firing up a desktop tool (and wrangling CSVs) is overkill for everyday cleanups. If the records you need to fix are already in a spreadsheet, you can push the changes straight back: Data Integrator for Salesforce turns Google Sheets into a lightweight, two-way data loader.
The workflow
- Pull the records you want to change into a sheet — via an object pull or a SOQL query — including the
Idcolumn. - Edit in the spreadsheet: fix phone formats with a formula, fill missing industries, normalize country names — all the things Sheets is actually good at.
- Upload with an upload template that maps sheet columns to Salesforce fields, then run the insert, update, or delete.
Insert, update, or delete
- Insert — rows without an
Idbecome new records (think: a list of leads from an event) - Update — rows with an
Idupdate the matching records in bulk - Delete — remove records listed in the sheet, e.g. after a dedupe pass
Tips for safe bulk updates
- Test against a sandbox connection first — the add-on supports both production and sandbox orgs
- Keep a pre-change snapshot: pull the records to a second tab (or use a Drive snapshot) before uploading
- Watch validation rules — rejected rows are reported so you can fix and retry only the failures
Bonus: IDs and files
Pasting IDs from reports and getting mismatches? The built-in admin tools convert 15-character Salesforce IDs to the 18-character form in bulk, and can move Salesforce Files and Attachments to and from Google Drive.
Full column-mapping details are in the upload help article.
